Set up wija (3) - obtain an account

You need to obtain an account1 from an XMPP server to start communication on wija.

1. Guidance

When you start wija for the first time, the following window appears.

[Register and account?]

If you have already obtained a usable account, choose "Use Existing One" and go on to "log into an XMPP server". If you can use Google Talk or Gmail2, it means that you have an account in a Google's server usable with wija.

Otherwise, choose "Register".

2. Specify how you want to obtain your account

The following window appears, to which you specify the parameters.

[register-new-account window]

[Username]
  • Decide on a name to express yourself.
  • The user name needs to be unique within a domain, but you should feel free to try the name you like (if the name is already in use, you will be prompted to try another one).
[Password]
  • The password to connect to the XMPP server.
  • Use something different from your GnuPG passphrase or passwords you use for any important accesses.
[Remember Password]
  • Check this if you allow wija to remember your password.
[Domain]
  • The name of the domain you choose to use for Jabber/XMPP services.
  • There are some public servers include the following, which can be selected by clicking on "List...".
    • media-art-online.org (Jabber/XMPP service operated by Media Art Online)
    • jabber.org (a popular Jabber/XMPP service)
    • jabber.jp (a popular Jabber/XMPP service in Japan)
    • jabber.org.uk (a popular Jabber/XMPP service in UK)
[Extended Info.]
  • You can name the login profile for the above settings.
  • Select your public key user ID. Your name and e-mail address will be set automatically.
    • If you have not installed GnuPG, you can leave this blank.

3. Obtain an account

Click on "Register" button.

If the server does not encounter a problem, your Jabber ID is created in the following form.

Username@Domain

If the user name is already in use, or the name is not properly formatted, an error message window appears. Try again after editing the problematic items on the registration window.

If you could successfully obtain an account, you will be automatically connected to the server (you will be asked to sign your presence by typing your GnuPG passphrase). From the next time, start communication according to the instructions in "log into an XMPP server".
